The department of HEPATOLOGY & Clinical Nutrition is involved in
The division of hepatology conducts research and audit since these are integral and incorporated in daily activities.

All research activites are necessarily aprroved by the SCINTIFIC REVIEW COMMITTEE AND INSTITUTIONAL ETHIC COMMITTEE.

  • Basic Science Research :


    A. Pathogenesis of immune mediated drug induced liver injury (DILI) with special reference Indian indigenous and herbal medicines.

    B. Role of visfatin in NAFLD

    1. Initiating and monitoring critical care nutrition (parenteral and enteral nutrition) for patients in the medical and surgical intensive care units, closely working with the team of Intensivists, Registrars and Nurses.
    2. Planning and monitoring specialized therapeutic diets of all in-patients. Malnutrition screening of all ward patients is done following which, the nutrition therapy is planned and monitored based on the disease condition.
    3. Monitoring the Food & Beverage department in providing the therapeutic diets to the in-patients.
    4. Nutrition assessment and diet counseling of out-patients depending on the medical condition.
    5. Research in clinical nutrition: Research projects in clinical nutrition have been taken up in the department. The key areas on focus include metabolic syndrome prevalence in gall stone diseases, oxidative stress and role of antioxidants in pancreatitis and inflammatory bowel diseases, and role of low fat soft diet in mild acute pancreatitis. These research projects are taken up under the supervision of the research committee.

    Services Available :


    Emergencies: All kinds of liver emergencies namely gastrointestinal bleeding, hepatic coma, acute infectious diseases of liver are dealt with by effcient team of Consultants in the 12 bedded LIVER INTENSIVE CARE UNIT( LICU). LICU has all the facilities required for high dependency unit namely round he clock anesthesia support services, renal dialysis, CRRT erc.

    In – patient services:Patient who need admission are admitted for investigations and treatment in the regular wards.rooms can be booked on prior appointment from 040-23378888

    Out patient services: Out patient services are provided from 9am on wards. Prior appointment is desirable for prompt services. Appointments can be obtained from 040-23378888
